ETSU looks to remain undefeated in conference play Sunday vs. the Bulldogs

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (April 2, 2016) – The ETSU women’s tennis team will take on Samford Sunday at the Dave Mullins Tennis Complex in a matchup between the top two teams in the SoCon standings. The Bucs enter the match with a record of 15-1 overall and 4-0 in conference action, while the Bulldogs are 8-8 this spring with an unblemished 3-0 record against SoCon competition. First serve between ETSU and Samford is scheduled for 1 p.m.

The Bucs come into Sunday’s matchup with Samford on a five-match winning streak. ETSU’s last three victories have all been 7-0 shutouts against Wofford, Western Carolina and Chattanooga. Additionally, ETSU has five players that have reached double figures in the win column in singles action. Freshman Marina Espana (Castellar Del Valles, Spain) paces this group with a record of 14-0. The Bucs have been even more dominant in doubles matches with a winning percentage of .786.

Much like ETSU, Samford enters Sunday’s tilt on a three-match winning streak against SoCon opponents. The Bulldogs swept UNCG, 7-0, and won a pair of 6-1 decisions against Mercer and Western Carolina during the streak. Samford’s top player this spring has been Savannah Wood who has a record of 10-6. In doubles action, the Bulldogs’ top duo is Carita Moolman and Jessica Northcutt with a record of 11-4.
