SPARTANBURG, S.C. (April 27, 2016) – ETSU women’s tennis player Lyn Yee Choo (Kuching, Malaysia) has been named the General Shale Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for competition held April 20-26, the league office announced Wednesday. It is the sixth time since January that an ETSU student-athlete has been honored with this award, which is the most of any school in the conference. Additionally, it is the second time Choo has won the award this spring.
“It is definitely well deserved,” ETSU Head Coach Travis Sandlant said. “She has had a great year and to win the award at the toughest time of the year shows how good she has been for ETSU.
The senior from Kuching, Malaysia helped the ETSU women’s tennis team clinch its first ever SoCon championship over the weekend. Choo, who is currently the No. 12 ranked player in the ITA Ohio Valley Region, went a perfect 2-0 in the SoCon Tournament to not only help the Bucs win the title but also take home the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player award. The honor is the second of Choo’s career as she earned the same honor following the 2014 A-Sun Tournament.
Choo has a 3.98 GPA and majoring in Computing with multiple concentrations in Information Systems and Information Technology. Choo is also a three-time all-conference academic team member and the 2013 A-Sun Scholar Athlete of the Year.
Choo and the rest of the Bucs will have over a week to rest up before learning their next opponent. The NCAA Tournament selection show will be May 3rd at 5 p.m. and will air solely on NCAA.com. Stay tuned to etsubucs.com as more details become available.
