Markesini and Pereira stay undefeated in doubles play

ELON, N.C. (September 16, 2017) – The ETSU women’s tennis team continued to play in the Elon Fall Invitational.In the Maroon Singles Draws, Ioanna Markesini (Athens, Greece) put up the hardest fight of the day, despite her loss to Somer Dalla-Bona from Coastal Carolina. She fell 6-7 (5), 6-2, 6-1. She will play Kirsten Ward at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday. Also in the Maroon Singles was Alory Pereira (Sao Paulo, Brazil). She won 6-0, 6-4 against Iryna Vardanian and moved on to play Madara Straume later in the day. Pereira fell to Straume 6-1, 6-3, but will play at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday for third place. She takes on Sabrina Barisano from UNCW.

After winning in the Gold Singles Draws today, Melissa Esguerra (Derrimutt, Australia) won 6-2, 6-1 against Trisha Sundaram from Emory. She will play fellow Emory opponent, Sasha Hartje at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday. Also in the Gold Draws was Yi Chi Ma (Kaohsiung, Taiwan) who beat Sarah Horn from UNCW, 6-4, 6-2. Ma will play Becca Morse from Appalachian State on Sunday at 10:00 a.m.

Jayde Viccars (Glen Waverly, Australia) received a bye today and will play Taylor Bygrave from UNCG also at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday.

In doubles play, Pereira and Markesini won 8-3 against Coastal Carolina’s duo. They will play in the championship road against UNCG’s duo on Sunday at 9:00 a.m.

The combination of Viccars and Esguerra also won today defeating Longwood. They will take on Emory’s duo also at 9:00 a.m. tomorrow.

Doubles matches will begin at 9:00 a.m., while singles matches resume at 10:00 a.m.
