MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (October 13, 2017) – The ETSU women’s tennis team competed in day two of the Ohio Valley Regional Championships in Murfreesboro, Tenn. on Friday.
Ioanna Markesini (Athens, Greece) competed in the singles main draws after earning a bye the previous day. She won 7-5, 6-1 against Natalia De Ugarte from WKU. From there, she beat Bogdna Zaporozhets from UT Chattanooga and won a three-set match 6-0, 4-6, 6-0. She will play on Saturday at 1:30 P.M. (ET) in the semi-finals.
Five Bucs competed in the main draw consolation matches. Alory Pereria (Sao Paulo, Brazil) defeated Ani Popiashvilli from Tennessee State, 6-0, 6-1. Yi Chi Ma (Kaohsiung, Taiwan) won against UT Martin’s Olha Burak, 6-1, 6-0. Mellisa Esguerra (Derrimutt, Australia) was the fourth Buc to pick up a win today and won 6-1, 6-2 against Putri Dwinta from EKU. Jayde Viccars (Glen Waverley, Australia) was defeated by EKU’s Kristina Lagoda, 6-1, 6-4.
In doubles play, Ioanna Markesini and Alory Pereira were defeated by Tennessee’s duo, 8-4.
