Singles action returns on Sunday at 9:00 a.m.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Nov. 11, 2017) – After competing in the FSU All Conference Showdown on Friday and Saturday, the Bucs concluded doubles play with one doubles pair finishing second, while the other finishing in third. Singles action will conclude on Sunday beginning at 9:00 a.m.

Ioanna Markesini (Athens, Greece) competed in the Gold Singles Draw and was defeated by Petra Hule 6-3, 6-4 from FSU. She then was defeated by Van Jeuvelen from Iowa, 6-2, 6-4. She will compete for seventh place on Sunday at 9:00 a.m. when she takes on Maryann Rompf from UW.

Up next for the Bucs was Alory Pereira (Sao Paulo, Brazil) who played in the Garnet Singles Draw. She was first defeated by USF’s Vanja Klaric, 6-3, 6-3and then fell to Gabby Castaneda from FSU 7-5, 6-4. She will also compete for seventh place on Sunday at 9:00 a.m. She will play against UCF’s Silvia Bordes.

Melissa Esguerra (Derrimutt, Australia) will fight for third place on Sunday at 9:00 a.m. She battled from behind against Hannah Seizer from Troy winning 0-6, 7-6, 6-3. Ari Rahmanparast from FSU, knocked Esguerra out of the championship, but she is set to take on MTSU’s Lidia Burrows as they fight for a third place finish.

Lastly in singles competition was Yi Chi Ma (Kaohsiung, Taiwan) who played in the Seminole Singles Draw. Ma will also battle for a third place finish on Sunday at 9:00 a.m. when she takes on Furman’s Carol Kerman. Ma won 7-6, 7-5 against Efriliya Herlina from Troy, but fell 6-3, 7-5 to Andrea Garcia from FSU to play in the championship.

In doubles action, Pereira and Markesini combined to beat WVU’s Jordan/Goetz for an 8-2 win. They dropped their match 8-5 to FSU’s duo in the championship round, but beat UCF’s doubles 8-5 to take third place.
