Bucs eager to keep win streak alive

AKRON, Ohio. (Feb. 16, 2018) – The ETSU women’s tennis team will travel to the state of Ohio for two dual matches. On Saturday, Feb. 17, they will take on West Virginia and on Sunday, Feb. 18 they will take on Virginia. Both matches will be played at the LaTuchie Tennis Center in Akron, Ohio.

About the Bucs

The Bucs will enter Saturday’s contest with a 2-3 record. They have a two-match winning streak going, with back-to-back wins from Tusculum and Lincoln Memorial. Alory Pereira (Sao Paulo, Brazil) is undefeated with a 2-0 singles record. Also with two wins on the season is Esther Guemes (Madrid, Spain), Ioanna Markesini (Athens, Greece), and Alejandra Morales (Santiago, Chile). ETSU holds a .417 singles percentage and a .357 doubles percentage.

About West Virginia

Both teams have competed against each other in various fall tournaments, but Sunday will mark the first time since 2006 that the Bucs and the Mountaineers will face each other in a dual match. West Virginia enters Saturday’s contest with a 1-6 record. Their most recent win came from George Washington after picking up a 4-3 win. Lyn Yuen Choo and Paula Goetz currently have two wins in singles. The team as a whole has a 7-10 singles record and a 2-6 record in doubles action.

About Akron

The Bucs hold a 3-1 all-time series record against the Zips. They last met in 2016 and ETSU claimed a 5-2 win in Johnson City. The Zips will enter Sunday’s contest with a 5-4 record. They have wins coming from Detroit Mercy, St. Bonaventure, Niagara, Utah State, and Walsh. Freshman Miruna Vasilescu is undefeated with a 6-0 record. In singles play, the Zips sit at .500 and have a 20-32 record in doubles.
