AKRON, Ohio. (Feb. 18, 2018) – After a weekend spent in Ohio, the Bucs finsished 1-1. ETSU fell to the Akron Zips on Sunday morning 5-2, at the LaTuchie Tennis Center.
Akron jumped out first to grab the doubles point. The Zips won the first match in doubles before Alory Pereira (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and Ioanna Markesini (Athens, Greece) tied the doubles points with a 6-4 win. Melissa Esguerra (Derrimutt, Australia) and Yi Chi Ma (Kaohsiung, Taiwan) fell to Luisa Echeverrry and Miruna Vasilescu, as the Zips would pick up the first point of the match.
Ioanna Markesini tied the match after defeating Rita Pedroso 6-2, 7-6 (3). Alejandra Morales (Santiago, Chile) gave the Bucs a lead with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Madison Wolfe in the No. 6 singles spot. From there, the Zips won four straight to clinch the match. Melissa Esguerra pushed a third set after falling behind in the No. 5 singles spot. She fell 6-3, 4-6, 6-0. Andrea Pascual-Larrinaga (Basauri, Spain) also put up quite the fight. She fought through a 6-7 (7), 6-4, 6-3 match. Lastly, Alory Pereira dropped her first singles match of the season with a 6-4, 6-7 (8), 6-4 loss to Carli Knezevich.
The Bucs will head to NC State on Wednesday, Feb. 21 with first serve set for 8:00 p.m.
