LAKE NONA, Fla. (March 7, 2018) – The ETSU women’s tennis team took on No. 25 UCF on Wednesday evening at the USTA National Campus. The Bucs fell 6-1 to drop to 4-9, as UCF improves to 9-2.
In doubles action, the Knights earned the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 spot, as the No. 2 spot was unfinished due to the point being clinched.
UCF grabbed four straight singles points to help them clinch the match. The Knights’ Emilia Granstrom defeated Jayde Viccars (Glen Waverley, Australia) 6-1, 6-2 and Maria Martinez defeated Alory Pereira 6-2, 6-2. Andrea Pascual-Larrinaga and Alejandra Morales both battled throughout their matches. Morales fell 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 to Monica Matias and Pascual-Larrinaga dropped her match 6-4, 6-0 to Rebeka Stolmar. Senior Ioanna Markesini gave the Bucs their only win of the match. She defeated Ksenia Kuznetsova 6-4, 6-4 at the No. 2 spot. Melissa Esguerra won her first set, but UCF’s Natalia Serrano came back to win the match 3-6, 6-1, 6-2.
The Bucs return to action on Friday, March 16 at 1:00 p.m. They will travel to Macon, Ga. to take on the Mercer Bears for their second conference match of the season.
