NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Feb. 4, 2019) – The ETSU women’s tennis team concluded their weekend in Nashville, but fell 4-1 to Lipscomb at the Whitworth Racquet Club.
Laylo Bakhodirova (Tashkent, Uzbekistan) and Alejandra Morales (Santiago, Chile) fell to Kate Popova and Vika Dzyuba in doubles 6-0. Denise Buberl and Madeleine Brooks would secure the doubles point after defeating Raquel Amaro (Caracas, Venezuela) and Yi Chi Ma (Kaohsiung, Taiwan) 6-2. Yunuen Elizarraraas (Cuernavaca, Mexico) and Andrea Pascual-Larrinaga (Basauri, Spain) were in the middle of a 3-3 match at the No. 3 doubles spot before the point was clinched.
Bakhodirova took the first set from Dzyuba at the No. 1 singles spot, but Dzyuba fought back to win the match 2-6, 6-1, 6-4. Lipscomb was able to take a 3-0 lead after Pascual-Larrinaga fell to Madeleine Brooks 6-2, 6-2. Freshman Raquel Amaro was able to give ETSU their only point of the match after she won 7-5, 6-2 at the No. 4 singles spot. Lipscomb’s Kate Popova helped her team clinch the match with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Alejandra Morales. At the No. 5 singles spot, Elizarraras was ahead 5-3 over Denise Buberl and Yi Chi Ma was also ahead 4-1 over Maddox Bandy, before the match ended.
ETSU returns to action this Thursday, Feb. 7 when they host Tusculum for their home opener. The match is slated for 3:00 p.m. at the Dave Mullins Tennis Complex.
