Murfreesboro, Tenn. (Feb. 15, 2020) — After a week away from the court, ETSU women’s tennis team found themselves back in the win column with a 5-2 victory over the Cincinnati Bearcats.
The Bearcats won the doubles point with wins at the No. 2 and 3 spots. At the top doubles fight, Alejandra Morales (Santiago, Chile) and Laylo Bakhodirova (Tashkent, Uzbekistan) dominated their opponent with a 6-1 win to open up the day.
In singles, the Blue and Gold were strong out of the gates winning five of the six bouts, all in straight sets. Morales and Andrea Pascual-Larrrinaga (Basauri, Spain) both gave walked away with 6-2, 7-5 wins at the second and third spots. After Cincinnati logged a victory at No. 6, the Bucs were able to take advantage of a Bearcat injury to move them within one win of a victory. Bakhodirova clinched the win for the Blue and Gold at the top flight with a 6-3, 6-2 win. Yunuen Elizarraras (Cuernavaca, Mexico) secured the final point for ETSU with a 6-0, 6-3 win at the five spot.
The Bucs improve to 3-3 on the season while the Bearcats fall to 5-3 with the loss. The squad is back in action tomorrow at 10 a.m. to take on Middle Tennessee State. MTSU lost to UC yesterday, 4-3.
