JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Jan. 30, 2003) - East Tennessee State University head track and field coach Dave Walker and staff are in the final preparations for the return of the Niswonger Foundation Track and Field Invitational, that will be held in ETSU's Memorial Center Jan. 31 - Feb. 1.
The meet returns to ETSU after a one-year hiatus and once again will showcase some of the world's top collegiate, post collegiate and professional athletes. Participants include Olympian hurdler Terrence Trammell, defending U.S. 200 meter champion Ramon Clay, former NCAA 200 meter champion Rohsson Griffin, nine-time All-American and 200 meter indoor NCAA champion LaKeisha Backus and former ETSU Buccaneer and All-American distance runner, Catherine Berry.
61 men's and women's teams have entered this year's competition, ranging from the University of South Carolina to Florida A&M. Six Southern Conference teams will also be competing.
The Science Hill High School band will be selling tickets. The ticket price is $10 and that will get you in for both days of competition. The meet begins Friday at noon and the final event of the evening is set to begin at 10 p.m. Saturday's events begin at 8 a.m. and run all day.
