BOONE, N.C. (Feb. 18, 2010) - With one final tune-up before the 2010 Atlantic Sun Indoor Track and Field Championships, Duronal Monal (Belle Glade, Fla.) made the most of the final competition, as the senior sprinter claimed the 55m title on Thursday night at the Mountaineer Open.
Monal, who advanced to the finals after winning the prelims with a time of 6.29, captured the crown in the 55m after sprinting in at 6.27 - beating out Appalachian State's Landon Powell (6.36).
Meanwhile, fellow Buccaneer sprinter Mike James (Palm Bay, Fla.) advanced to the finals with Monal; however, he was disqualified. The Palm Bay, Fla. native made up for the miscue by advancing to the finals in the 55m hurdles, and was the top collegiate finisher after recording a time of 7.45.
On the women's side junior Ashton Bishop (Gate City, Va.), competed in both the 800m and high jump. Bishop took second in the 800 with a time of 2:22.61; while placing fifth in the high jump (1.55m).
The ETSU track and field team will now begin preparations for the conference championships, which will be held here in Johnson City on Feb. 26-27.
