BLACKSBURG, Va. (Feb. 4, 2010) - A pair of ETSU top sprinters will head up to Blacksburg, Va. this weekend as senior Duronal Monal (Belle Glade, Fla.) and junior Mike James (Palm Bay, Fla.) compete in the Virginia Tech Elite Meet inside the Rector Field House.
Monal and James will face some of the best athletes in the region and country this weekend. The Buccaneer scholar-athletes will go head-to-head against runners from Florida State, Florida, Clemson, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Kentucky, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Maryland, Wake Forest and the host Hokies.
James, who set a provisional mark in the 60m hurdles, currently holds the 18th fastest time in the event after turning in a mark of 7.90 at Appalachian State back in December. The Palm Bay, Fla. native will also race in the 200m dash.
Meanwhile, Monal will showcase his speed in both the 60m and 200m dash. Monal clocked in a time of 6.74 back on Jan. 8 at Clemson - placing him 26th in the country - while ranking 33rd in the 200m (21.49).
On Friday evening, James will race in the prelims of the 60m hurdles at 5:45 p.m. and Monal will run the prelims of the 60m at 6:10 p.m. The 200m finals will be contested at 8:25 p.m. on Friday; however, the 200m invitational section will be raced on Saturday afternoon at 2:20 p.m.
