DES MOINES, Iowa (June 24, 2010) - Needing to record a top 16 time in the preliminaries of the 100m, senior Buccaneer sprinter Duronal Monal (Belle Glade, Fla.) came up one one-hundreth of a second short of qualifying for the semifinals Thursday evening at 2010 USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, located at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa.
Monal, who was facing a stiff field including Olympian athletes, finished 18th overall with a time of 10.57 in the prelims.
The Belle Glade, Fla. native needed to finish in the top 16 in order to advance to Friday's semifinal race; however, his mark was one one-hundreth of a second shy of making the cut. Rodney Martin of HSI International was the final runner to make the field of 16 - posting a time of 10.56.
Travis Padgett won the prelims after clocking in at 10.23, while 2008 Olympic bronze medalist Walter Dix finished second in 10.27.
Monal has one race remaining at the Championships as he runs in the first round of the 200m Saturday at 5:05 p.m. Meanwhile, freshman Jason Johnson (Springfield, Pa.) will represent ETSU in the triple jump Friday afternoon at 2:20 p.m.
