Junior jumper posts multiple top-fives on her way to weekly honor
MACON, Ga. (Dec. 7, 2011) – Junior Kelly Monteleone (Pittsburgh, Pa.) was named Atlantic Sun Women’s Field Athlete of the Week following her multiple top-five finishes at the Appalachian Collegiate Indoor this past weekend, announced the conference office on Wednesday.
"I'm happy for Kelly, as she is finally starting to come around,” said ETSU assistant coach Eli Sunquist. “The past few seasons she has struggled with injuries, so I'm excited to see what she is capable of when she is at full strength. It’s also nice to see her triple jump so well from a short approach so early in the season."
The weekly award is the second of Monteleone’s collegiate career, having been given the honor the week of May 12, 2010. Monteleone also becomes ETSU’s first female Field Athlete of the Week since Leah Oakhill the week of May 5 of last season.
Monteleone posted top-fives in two events at ETSU’s first meet of the indoor season, placing fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 11.71m, and third in the long jump with a leap of 5.51m. Her two top-fives were part of 14 for ETSU in the two-day invite, as Monteleone was the lone ETSU woman to finish fifth or better in more than one event.
