BLACKSBURG, Va. (Jan. 12, 2012) – The ETSU track and field teams resume the indoor season this Friday and Saturday when they travel to Blacksburg, Va. for their first meet of the new year at the Virginia Tech Invitational.
The meet will begin at 5 p.m. on Friday with the 60m dash, 60m hurdles, mile run, 1000m, 500m and 300m, triple jump, pole vault and weight throw events to take place. Saturday, the meet will resume at 11 a.m. with the 5000m, 3000m, 800m, 400m, 200m, Distance Medley Relay, 4x4 relay, high jump, long jump and shot put.
The Buccaneers will compete against men’s and women’s teams from 28 institutions throughout the weekend, which include: Boston College, Clemson, Duke, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Maryland, North Carolina, Virginia and Virginia Tech.
“We as a staff are very excited to get the 2012 season underway,” said ETSU assistant coach Eli Sunquist. “We have some new athletes joining us this spring and we are looking forward to seeing them compete. This weekend will be a good opportunity to see how everyone competes after a six-week break from the App State meet.”
At the App State Invitational, the Bucs reeled in 14 top-five performances including a first place finish by freshman Filip Jalovy (Modrice, Czech Republic) in the mile run.
In last year’s VT Invitational, junior Tim O’Dell (Palm Coast, Fla.) earned a top-10 finish in the 400m with a time 49.68. Meanwhile, redshirt senior Caitlyn Epps (Cookeville, Tenn.) clocked a third place result in the women’s 5000m with a time of 18:20.71 and local junior Jasmine Foster (Johnson City, Tenn.) posted another ETSU top-10 in the women’s weight throw.
