Freshman Runner Breaks Own Record
Saturday, January 26, 2002Chapel Hill, N.C. (January 26, 2002) - Freshman sprinter Chantelle Vernon (Markham, Ontario) broke her own record of 7.64 seconds during the preliminaries of the 60m dash by .01 seconds at the Blue Heaven Rumble hosted by the University of North Carolina. Vernon ran broke the record two weeks ago at the West Virginia University Classic. Vernon went on to run a time of 7.72 seconds in the finals of the 60m to finish in 11th place. The East Tennessee State women's team had some other great performances over the weekend. The women's 4x400m relay team finished in 3:51.48 to take second place, defeating three ACC teams in the process. The team consisted of Roseline Addo (Newbury, England), Uloma Nwagbara (Liliburn, Ga.), Ashley Taylor (Atlanta, Ga.), and Nichola Cornish (Spartanburg, S.C.). Members of the 4x400m relay team also competed individually. Nwagbara finished in the 400m dash in 57.66 seconds and finished in ninth place. Addo finished third in the 800m run by finishing with a time of 2:12.734. The ETSU track and field team heads to Lexington, Ky. on Feb. 1st to compete in the Rod McCravy Memorial Invitational Track Meet.
