JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Jan. 16, 2003) - East Tennessee State University men's and women's track and field teams are gearing up for the upcoming indoor season. With the addition of assistant coach Michelle Byrne, head coach Dave Walker looks to improve on last seasons fifth place Southern Conference Indoor Championship finish. The 2003 squad will rely on the strength of its distance runners, but return all but one member of the women's 4x400 meter indoor team who finished second at last year's SoCon Indoor meet. The season begins this weekend as the Buccaneers travel to Blacksburg, Va. For the Virginia Tech Kroger Invitational. The Buccaneers will then return home for the Niswonger Foundation Track and Field Invitational on Jan. 31-Feb.1 that will be held in Memorial Center.
