JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (July 7, 2003) - East Tennessee State University's track and field head coach David Walker was presented with a certificate of appreciation by the NCAA Division I Track and Field Coaches' Association.
"It is a tremendous honor to receive this award from my peers in the Track and Field Coaches' Association," commented Walker.
Walker, who will enter his 40th year at the helm of the track and field program in 2003-04, was presented with the service award for his outstanding contribution to track and field.
During his tenure at ETSU, Walker has produced three Olympians and 22 All-Americans, including Kevin Johnson, a four-time All-American, and Ray Flynn, who became one of the five top milers in the world. Walker's teams have won 20 conference championships and made 14 consecutive national championship appearances from 1970 to 1983.
In addition to his coaching duties, Walker has served on the NCAA Track and Field Rules Committee for six years including a five-year term as chairman.
