JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (March 29, 2006) - The ETSU track and field teams combined to win 10 events on Wednesday afternoon, taking on competition at the Milligan Open, held at the Liberty Bell Athletic Complex.  Five members of the women's team recorded blue-ribbon finishes, along with one relay, while four athletes on the men's side took first-place honors.

In women's action, the Bucs swept the 100-meter dash with Jenny Knox (Connelly Springs, N.C.) nabbing first place with a time of 12.18.  Teammates Ebonie Jones (Richmond, Va.) and Cagney Bailey (Statesville, N.C.) followed in second and third, clocking 12.20 and 12.31, respectively.  Both Jones' and Bailey's marks were season bests.  The Lady Bucs sprinters also managed a first-place showing in the 4x100 relay, clocking a season-best 47.59.

The Bucs also packed the one-two punch in the hurdles with Anna Marie Ricciardi (Canfield, Ohio) and Katie McCarty (Kingsport, Tenn.) recording first and second place finishes.  Ricciardi's winning mark of 15.58 was her best of the spring.

Other event winners included Rebecca Cole (Knoxville, Tenn.) in the pole vault, Dedra McDaniel (North Tazwell, Va.) in the hammer, and Caitlin St. Louis (Kingsport, Tenn.) in the 400-meter hurdles.  McDaniel, who also finished second in the discus, posted a personal-best mark of 119-9 in the hammer.  Teammate Antoinette Smith (Lynchburg, Va.) also managed a collegiate-best 107-10 in the hammer, enough for second place.

On the men's side, Josh Hicks (Riceville, Tenn.) record a first-place performance, running 8:49.97 for 3,000-meters in his first try at the event this season.  Michael Deren (Blasdell, N.Y.) and Bernard Towett (Kericho, Kenya) placed third and fourth, respectively.

David Thomas (Maryville, Tenn.) took top honors in the pole vault, clearing 13-11.25.  Justin White (Athens, Tenn.) and Guy Hornsby (Morgantown, W.Va.) each posted an event win in the throws, with White taking the shot put with a heave of 42-1.25, and Hornsby winning the hammer with a toss of 118-8.  Raymond Johnson (Georgetown, Tenn.) followed White in second place in the shot, marking 41-10.75.

The Bucs have only a couple days off before heading back into competition on Saturday at the Liberty Invitational in Lynchburg, Va., and Western Carolina Invitational in Cullowhee, N.C.  Check ETSUBucs.com for results and recaps of the weekend events.
