JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Feb. 5, 2011) - The ETSU men's and women's Track and Field teams had six top three performances Saturday as the Bucs closed out the 33rd annual Niswonger Invitational inside the ETSU/MSHA Athletic Center.
"Day two followed up a good first day for us," said assistant coach Eli Sunquist. "Jasmine, Emani, mike, and Jarrod continued to lead the team, and we also had solid performances from our combined event athletes and women's 4x4 relay. I was very proud of how our women approached and ran the 4x400m. Coach Morton was able to fire them up, and they ran extremely well. The sprinters have been training very hard and are surely beat up after a long weekend, but they were still able to run an aggressive relay. As a staff we are really trying to teach toughness to our kids, and we started to see a glimpse of that this weekend. After this weekend I can definitely say that we will be ready for big things in two weeks."
Senior Jasmine Ingram (Fredrick, Md.) was just edged out in the 400m by half a second by Western Carolina's Jane't Carothers after running a time of 55.44. Ingram then came back later in the day to finish third in the 200m with a time of 24.84.
Hannah Bowers (Jonesborough, Tenn.), Emma Bowers (Jonesborough, Tenn.), Ashton Bishop (Gate City, Va.) and Ingram combined to run the Bucs best 4x400m relay time of the season as ETSU placed second in the event with a time 3:51.13.
In the women's 60m dash, Emani Harrison (Columbia, S.C.) came in third after she posted a time of 7.66.
On the men's side, senior Jarrod Burton (Bastian, Va.) followed up his win in the weight throw with a third place finish in the shot put after his throw of 54-6 , while Mike James (Palm Bay, Fla.) was third in the men's 60m hurdles invitational as he posted a time of 8.17.
ETSU returns to action on Feb. 18 as the Bucs host the Atlantic Sun Indoor Championship inside the ETSU/MSHA Athletic Center.
