JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (May 4, 2011) - In preparation for the final two meets of qualifying season, two ETSU field athletes came away with Atlantic Sun Athlete of the Week awards this week, the conference office in Macon, Ga., announced yesterday.

After leaping into the top 48 in the region with a chance at NCAA competition in Bloomington, Ind., May 27, Jason Johnson (Springfield, Pa.) represented the men's team for the award.  Johnson followed up a great Charlotte Invite with a second-place finish in the triple jump at the Highlander Invitational in Radford, Va.  Johnson's 48-00.00 (14.35m) leap was the top Bucs finish on the men's side and is fourth-best in conference this season, where Johnson already holds the No. 2 mark from last week.

Staking a regional claim at Radford, Leah Oakhill (Brisbane, Australia) took the women's award.  Oakhill's second-place high jump of 5-06.75 (1.70m) not only vaulted her into the top-three conference marks in the event, but also put her on the NCAA regional bubble with the No. 48 jump in the region.

Next up, said Assistant Coach Eli Sunquist, the team diverges for two events this weekend before rounding out the season next week.  Some of the team goes to the Liberty Invite today in Lynchburg, Va., while the rest go to the first of two recently finalized events in Clemson, S.C.

This week, Clemson hosts the Bob Pollock Spring Invitational.  Next week, the Bucs go back for the Clemson Final Qualifier.
