JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (May 24, 2012) – The ETSU track and field team’s three representatives at the NCAA East Regional preliminary first round competed on Thursday at North Florida’s Hodges Stadium, but fell short of posting a time to advance into Friday’s National Quarterfinal.
Ifrish Alberg (Paramaribo, Suriname), Tim O’Dell (Palm Coast, Fla.) and Anja Claussnitzer (Chemnitz, Germany) each earned the honor of representing the Buccaneers in Jacksonville. Alberg and O’Dell led the Atlantic Sun in the men’s 100m and 400m dash, respectively, while Claussnitzer earned her spot in the women’s 800m ranked No. 3 in the conference.
Alberg ran a 10.60 out of heat five in the 100m, and sat in 24th place heading into the sixth and final heat. With the top 27 spots advancing to Friday, Alberg fell to 29th after five runners in the last heat beat out his mark.
O’Dell was next up in the 400m and crossed the line in 48.27. The time was good enough for 45th place, but did not advance the junior into the next round.
Claussnitzer clocked in at 2:08.82 in the 800m, earning fifth place out of the eight sprinters in heat two. The senior’s time held up all the way until the fifth heat, when she was knocked out of the top 27 and had to settle for 32nd.
