Both receive conference accolades after strong showings at Charlotte 49er Classic
SPARTANBURG, S.C. (March 25, 2015) – Junior thrower Verena Tobis (Dusslingen, Germany) and junior sprinter Keturah Williams (Alpharetta, Ga.) were awarded Southern Conference Outdoor Track & Field Weekly Honors, the league office announced Wednesday.
Tobis earned Women’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week following placing runner-up with a 44.73-meter toss in the javelin at the Charlotte 49er Classic this past weekend. The thrower’s mark in the event was second best in a field of competition featuring 31 competitors and currently ranks first in the SoCon.
Williams was named Women’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week after placing third in the 100-meter final at the 49er Classic with a personal-best time of 11.60. The placement was second-best among attached runners in the race and the time is presently tops in the SoCon this season and ranks as the fourth-fastest nationally in the event.
The ETSU track & field program will be back in action this weekend at the Raleigh Relays, March 27 – 28, in Raleigh, North Carolina.
