JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Feb. 13, 2020) – With the Southern Conference Indoor Championships approaching rapidly, the ETSU track and field team set out for dual locations this weekend: the distance runners heading to take part in the Music City Challenge hosted by Vanderbilt, while the rest of the squad goes to Lynchburg to take part in the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational hosted by Liberty in Lynchburg.

Honoring the late Darius Dixon, a freshman on the Liberty track team at the time of his unfortunate passing, the Flames have put on this event for the sixth straight year, ETSU being one of 19 universities attending the competition, alongside the likes of East Carolina, Elon, Maryland, Navy, UNCG and Wake Forest. The Bucs will send their field team to compete along with the sprinters, with three events on Friday including the weight throw, the 5k and the distance medley relays. ETSU competes in both the men’s and women’s weight throw starting at 3pm before an action packed Saturday. Links to the live results can be found here.

Meanwhile, a select group of distance runners will be making their way west to the Music City, taking on the field in Vanderbilt’s hosted competition. The Music City Challenge brings along with it some strong competition from Power Five schools around the country. Purdue, Wisconsin, Michigan State and Illinois represent a contingent of Big Ten schools while the likes of Mississippi State, Georgia Tech, Alabama and SMU represent schools along the South that will represent themselves in the weekend meet.

The Bucs only have one race on the first day of the event tomorrow, with athletes competing in the 5000m race before having a full slate on Saturday. Live results can be followed through this link.
