Bucs Finish 1-2 in Knoxville's Trideltathon

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (April 16, 2018) -- Working through less than favorable conditions (thanks to a strong spring storm system), members of ETSU’s triathlon team exceled at the Trideltathon triathlon on Sunday in Knoxville, Tenn. Freshman Morgan James (Clovis, Calif.) was the top female finisher, with freshman teammate Annika Cotner (Muskegon, Mich.) the runner-up. Senior Marie Tipton (Mount Carmel, Ind.) was 4th in the females 20-24 age group.

Warriner Joins Triathlon Coaching Staff

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (April 11, 2018) -- Triathlon is a growth sport in collegiate athletics, and ETSU's program is growing along with it. Bucs head coach Janine Pleasant has announced that former ETSU student athlete Matt Warriner is joining her staff as a volunteer assistant coach. Warriner will assist in all aspects of the program, with an emphasis on run training.

ETSU Athletics to hold second annual Legacy Day April 11th

For the second straight year, the ETSU Department of Intercollegiate Athletics will launch a special day of giving in support of Buccaneer student-athletes on Wednesday, April 11th.

James, Cotner Excel in Johnson City Event

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (April 9, 2018) -- College triathlon won’t stage its championship season until the fall. But that doesn’t mean members of ETSU’s triathlon team aren’t competing during the off-season. Morgan James (Clovis, Calif.) and Annika Cotner (Muskegon, Mich.) were the top two females in the Bunny Hop 5K and Kid's Dash, held March 31 in Johnson City. Both finished in the top 12 overall, among all competitors.

Bucs Welcome New Programs to NCAA Triathlon

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (November 29, 2017) -- The ETSU triathlon team is going to have some company. USA Triathlon has announced that the University of South Dakota and Wagner College (Staten Island, N.Y.) have become the third and fourth NCAA Division I schools to add women's triathlon as a varsity sport. The Coyotes and Seahawks will begin competition in the fall of 2018. The NCAA has mandated that 40 schools must offer triathlon by 2024 for it to become sustainable as an NCAA Championship sport.

Bucs Wrap Up Season at National Championships

TEMPE, ARIZ. (Nov. 5, 2017) – ETSU’s triathlon team concluded its 2017 season by finishing 2nd among NCAA Division I teams in the USA Triathlon Women’s Collegiate National Championships in Tempe, Ariz. on Sunday. The race consisted of a 750-meter swim, draft-legal 20-kilometer bike and 5-kilometer run on the Tempe Town Lake course. 2017 is just the second year of triathlon at ETSU. For the fourth time in four events this fall, Morgan James (Clovis, Calif.) had the top result for ETSU. The freshman posted a time of 1:11:15.24 to finish 32nd in a field of 73 competitors.

ETSU Triathlon Readies for National Championships

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Nov. 4, 2017) – ETSU’s women’s triathlon team is heading to Tempe, Ariz. for the USA Triathlon Women’s Collegiate Triathlon National Championship, scheduled at 12:30 pm Eastern time. This is just the second year of triathlon at ETSU. The Bucs were national runners-up among NCAA Division I varsity teams in 2016. More than 80 triathletes from 21 college teams (varsity and club) are expected to compete in Tempe. Last year’s field consisted of 48 athletes from 10 teams. ETSU qualified for the 2017 championship meet by finishing second in the season-opening Central Regional Qualifier in Naperville, Ill. on September 4.
