Bucs have 20 days to prepare for first competition of their inaugural season

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (August 16, 2016) – The ETSU women’s triathlon team held its first ever practice Monday morning on campus. ETSU is one of just 13 women’s triathlon programs in the nation and just one of two Division I schools to sponsor the sport.

“Considering it was the first day of practice and our first competition is Sept. 5, I thought everyone did incredibly well,” said ETSU Head Coach Janine Pleasant. “We are all excited about representing ETSU in its first season of women’s triathlon.”

Triathlon is a varied sport as it incorporates a 750-meter swim, 20-kilometer bike ride and a five-kilometer run. All athletes are timed individually, while the three best times from each team are combined to generate the team score.

The Bucs will have 20 days to prepare for their first official competition which is set for Sept. 5 at the Central Regional Qualifier in Naperville, Ill.
