NEW ORLEANS (Nov. 5, 2016) – Competing in its first-ever national championship, the ETSU women’s triathlon team posted a third-place team finish and had three competitors place in the Top 15 spots among NCAA sponsored teams Saturday in the Women’s Collegiate Triathlon National Championships at the New Orleans Lakefront.
The Buccaneers were led by senior McKenzie Killian (Bluff City), who posted a 9th-place showing with a time of 1:08:39. Meanwhile, freshman Chloe Ford (Johnson City) finished 11th and senior Maya Roselius (Bremen, Germany) placed 15th. Ford posted a time of 1:12:01, while Roselius finished at 1:14:15.
ETSU head coach Janine Pleasant, whose team is in its first year of competition, was pleased with the results.
“I was really pleased with the effort of our team today,” Pleasant said. “For a first-year program to place third and also have strong individual performances was great to see. Now it’s time to just keep building the program as we prepare for competitions in the future.”
While other club teams from large institutions and individuals representing other schools can compete in the national event, only ETSU, Arizona State University, Queens University of Charlotte, North Central College, Marymount University, Black Hills State University, Centenary College, University of West Alabama and Concordia College competed in the NCAA division.
