SCOTTSBORO, Ala. (Sept. 16, 2017) – Even with a short-handed roster, and having to change their schedule on short notice, ETSU’s Triathlon team put in a strong performance at the Frantic Frog Age Group meet Saturday in Scottsboro, Ala.
Morgan James (Clovis, Cal.) was ETSU’s top performer. The freshman was the top female finisher, and posted the 3rd-best overall time, including men and women.
Annika Cotner (Muskegon, Mich.) was 1st among females ages 15-19, and 20th overall.
Carly Brewington (Coral Springs, Fla.) was 5th in the females 15-19 age group, and 111th overall.
“Morgan and Annika raced hard but smart, and Carly gave it her all,” said ETSU head coach Janine Pleasant. “We didn’t taper (ease up on training) for this race because it doesn’t count for collegiate racing. Our team raced tired and sore and pushing their training limits over the last two weeks.”
The Bucs were originally scheduled to race in the Anchor Splash Triathlon in Oak Ridge, Tenn. on Sunday, September 17. But that event was canceled, leaving the team to find another event to replace it.
The schedule change meant that two Bucs athlete were unavailable for the Frantic Frog due to prior commitments. Illness sidelined two more.
“I’m very proud of how they raced today,” said Pleasant. “Now we have two weeks to recover and finesse our skills before we race again.”
The Bucs’ next event is the Eastern Regional Qualifier on Saturday, October 7, in Sarasota, Fla.
