Bristol, Tenn. (Sept. 1, 2019) — The ETSU women’s team was back in action on Sunday morning to compete in the South Holston Dam Triathlon. The team finished first overall with freshman Faith Powell (Columbia, Tenn.) taking home the top spot in the race.
“They were in the lead pack on the bike and got everybody focused and working together and came out with a fantastic result,” said Janine Pleasant, head coach. “We’ve got deep talent and we are excited to see where it takes us.”
The Bucs finished with a total score of six with having the top three finishers. Queens University (15) took second with their top three finishing behind ETSU. Davis and Elkins (38), Eastern Mennonite (66) and King (73) rounded out the top five. This was the first triathlon competition of EMU and King in their program’s history.
Powell finished with a time of 44:24, just a second ahead of fellow Buccaneer Lane McDonald (South Bend, Ind.). Cameron Seeley (Blacksburg, Va.) came in third overall with a time of 44:30.
Lindsey Batkiewicz (Johnson City, Tenn.) and Katelyn Elliott (Porter, Tenn.) logged matching times of 44:38 to finish 8th and 9th respectively.
The running portion of the race was eliminated from the results after the course was not executed properly.
