Every Spartan starter managed at least one hit and eight of the nine scored. UNCG smacked three home runs, including two from designated hitter Jesse Lavender (four RBIs). Leadoff hitter Doug Schutt went 4-5 with two runs scored and one RBI. Chris Mittendorf and Chris Cook also collected three hits.

Of the Bucs (21-30, 12-17 SoCon) three hits, second baseman Brandon Cross stroked two and Tim Turner had one.

UNCG (27-25, 17-11 SoCon) engineered two runs on two hits in the first. Schutt led off the game with a single and Chad Hayes followed with a walk. Schutt later scored on a fielders choice off the bat of Jesse Martin, and Hayes came home on an RBI groundout by Nick Lockhart. The Spartans loaded the bases in the second but Buc starter Donnie Sharp enduced a groundout to end the threat.

The visitors broke open the game with a five-run third. After a single and a strikeout, the Spartans strung together four consecutive hits. Lavender highlighted the frame with a three-run homer over the right field wall.

Lockhart scored on a double steal and the Spartans led 8-0 after four. Hayes hit a two-run shot in the seventh that scored Schutt who had doubled to begin the inning. Lavendar belted a solo shot in the eighth to increase the Spartans lead to 11-0.

Despite the loss, ETSU qualified for the Southern Conference Tournament because the College of Charleston lost at The Citadel.

The Bucs and Spartans will conclude the regular season tomorrow at 3 p.m.
