East Tennessee State Sweeps Doubleheader From VMI, 9-2, 17-12

LEXINGTON,Va. -- ETSU's 2B Ryan Hyder went 4-for-5 in game one and 3-for-6 in game two to help lead East Tennessee State to a doubleheader sweep of VMI, in Southern Conferfence baseball action Saturday afternoon at Patchin Field.

In game one, ETSU scored four times in the first inning and never looked back, as the Bucs took game one 9-2. LF Kirk Keithely and Andy Baxter had two hits each to also lead the Bucs' attack.

ETSU pithcer Reid Casey (3-6) went the distance scattering seven hits to picked up the win, while Keydet starter Jeremy Harper (1-4) picked up the loss allowing seven earned runs in seven inning of work. VMI senior Rob Riley went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI's and a home run to lead VMI.

In game two, VMI (13-30, 6-17 SoCon) jumped out to a 8-4 lead after three innings of play, but would squander the lead as ETSU capitalized on nine Keydet errors as ETSU (21-26, 12-14 SoCon) defeated VMI 17-12 in the night cap.

Both teams would combine for 37 hits and 12 doubles in game two.

ETSU's Hyder had three hits, while Baxter and Mckinney each had two hits and three RBI's to lead the Bucs to the game two victory.

ETSU reliever Jackson Simerly (3-3) pitched 4-2/3 of middle relief to picked up the victory, while Andrew Lawson (0-2) allowed four runs in 2-2/3 of relief to pick up the loss.

VMI was led by senior left fielder Ryan Colvin who went a perfect 4-for-4 with 4 RBI's and catcher Justin Briggs who had also had four hits in the night cap.

The two teams wrap up the three-game series with a single game at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
