JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Apr. 13, 2007) - The Lipscomb University baseball squad scored 10 runs in a three inning span, erasing a 3-0 deficit and cruising to a 10-3 Atlantic Sun Conference victory over ETSU Friday night at Cardinal Park.

The Bisons (20-16, 5-5) tagged junior ETSU starter Brandon Langston (Ringgold, Ga.) for five runs in the fifth and four more in the sixth, and reliever Chris Burnett (2-0) fired five shutout innings, helping the Bisons to their third conference win in their last four games.

Sophomore Troy Mendez (Roswell, Ga.) opened the scoring in the second inning, coming home on a wild pitch and giving ETSU a 1-0 lead.  Mendez led off the inning with a single into center field, and moved over to third following a sac bunt and an infield single.  Senior C.J. Lee (Bristol, Va.) brought home the Bucs' second run with a single to left field, scoring freshman Tanner Moore (Chattanooga, Tenn.).

Senior Justin Aughey (Davie, Fla.) hit his third home run in his last five games, and fifth of the season in the third inning, leading off the frame with a shot over the right field wall and pushing the ETSU advantage to 3-0.

Langston pitched out of trouble through the first four innings, stranding five Bison runners, but Lipscomb put together five hits in the fifth and, aided by one ETSU error, claimed its first lead of the night.

Four more hits in the sixth and another costly ETSU error brought around four more Lipscomb runs, and the Bucs never threatened again.

Aughey and Moore each finished 3-for-4 with a run scored on the night, while the Bisons received a pair of three-hit performances from center fielder Casey Bond and first baseman Ryan Wilkins.  Both Bond and Wilkins finished the night with two runs scored and two RBI as well.

Burnett entered the game in the fifth inning, and scattered five hits through the next five frames while striking out five Bucs and earning his second victory of the season.  Langston struck out four in six innings of work, but falls to 6-3 after allowing nine runs on 13 hits.

With the threat of impending heavy rains for the remainder of the weekend, the series schedule has been changed.  The two teams will now conclude their weekend series with a Saturday afternoon doubleheader.  First pitch is scheduled for noon at Cardinal Park.
