"I am very excited about Reid Casey running our pitching staff next season," said Skole. "Reid was a natural fit for the job and we are delighted to have him back at ETSU. He brings a unique blend of college and pro experience to our staff."
Following his career at ETSU, Casey spent two years playing in the Cleveland Indians organization, playing for the high A affiliate in
After his playing days with the Indians, Casey joined the Jackson Senators of the old Central League. In the 2004 season, Casey led the team with 40 appearances while going 5-3 and compiling a 2.29 ERA.
"I couldn't be happier returning to my alma mater for my first coaching job," said Casey. "I'm excited to work with Coach Skole and Coach Greene this season, and it just feels great to be back in a Buccaneer uniform."
Casey takes over a pitching staff that has been plagued by inconsistency in recent seasons. Despite posting back-to-back winning seasons for the first time since the 1992 and 1993 campaigns, the Bucs team ERA has been above six each season, with last year's 6.29 ERA ranking last in the Atlantic Sun Conference.
"As a former player of mine, not only was he one of the finest pitchers I have ever coached, Reid was also one of the fiercest competitors I have ever seen take the mound," said Skole. "I am excited about our pitching staff taking on his personality. Reid is very passionate about pitching, a tireless worker, and I am looking forward to his impact on the personal growth of our players, on and off the diamond."
