ETSU Baseball drops game two to Jacksonville, 12-3

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (March 19, 2011) - After grabbing an early lead, the ETSU baseball team gave up two big innings as they dropped game two of the series 12-3 to Jacksonville Saturday afternoon at Cardinal Park.
Senior Bo Burton (Kingsport, Tenn.) was tabbed with his second loss of the season as he surrendered eight runs on seven hits and walked four with a strikeout in 4.0 innings, while JU's Matt Tomshaw was credited with the win after limiting the Bucs to two runs scattering nine hits in 7.0 innings with eight strikeouts.
Junior left fielder John Long (Anderson, S.C.) gave the Bucs a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second as he crushed a two-run home run to left for his second homer of the season.
The Dolphins cut the ETSU lead to 2-1 in the top of the third as Alex Swenson came in to score on a sacrifice fly after leading off the inning with a double.
JU grabbed a 6-2 lead in the fourth as the Dolphins scored five runs on four hits highlighted by a Chris Connelly three-run homer.
In the top of the fifth, Jacksonville increased its advantage to 9-2 after Jonathan Murphy came in to score on a ball hit to second and Kevin Lehane homered to left.
Murphy added another run for JU in the sixth as he singled in a run to make the score 10-2.
Taylor Ratliff capped off the scoring for Jacksonville as he singled in two runs in the top of the eighth to put the Dolphins in front 12-2.
ETSU added a run late as Cory Betterson (Atlanta, Ga.) came in to score on a balk by Chris Anderson in the bottom of the ninth to make the final 12-3.
Long, Kerry Doane (Ft. Lauderdale. Fla.) and Corey McPherson (Johnson City, Tenn.) each had two hits on the day for the Buccaneers.
