Baseball Bucs rout Jaspers in series sweep

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (May 1, 2011) - The ETSU baseball team completed the sweep of Manhattan Sunday afternoon as the Bucs routed the Jaspers 19-7 in the series finale to pick up their fifth straight win.
The Buccaneers (27-15, 12-10 A-Sun) posted a season-high in runs as they outhit Manhattan (23-15, 14-0 MAAC) 20-13 in the contest including ten extra base hits. All nine starters for ETSU had at least one hit in the win as five Bucs pounded out multiple hits on the afternoon.
Junior Bo Reeder (Cookeville, Tenn.) was phenomenal at the plate going 4-for-5 with a double, home run, scored three runs and drove in six. Andrew Green (Powell, Tenn.) also had four hits in the game.
Senior Paul Hoilman (Johnson City, Tenn.) moved only one hit back of Shane Byrne for the ETSU career hits record after going 2-for-4 on the day to pick up his 289th career hit. Hoilman also posted his 78th career double to put him one back of Stetson's Frank Corr for the Atlantic Sun career doubles record.
Starter Bo Burton (Kingsport, Tenn.) earned his second victory of the season going 5.0 innings holding the Jaspers to four runs (three earned) on six hits with three walks and two strikeouts. Mike Giordano was tabbed with the loss for Manhattan as he was pulled in the third inning after giving up 11 runs on 11 hits with a walk and three strikeouts.
The Jaspers took the lead in the first inning for the third straight contest on a Mike McCann two-run homer to right.
ETSU answered plating three runs in the bottom half of the frame to take a 3-2 lead after an RBI single by Reeder and a two-run round-tripper by Hoilman.
In the bottom of the second, the Buccaneers jumped out to an 8-2 lead scoring five runs on four hits highlighted by a Dylan Pratt (Johnson City, Tenn.) three-run bomb to right field.
The Bucs extended their lead to 11-2 in the bottom of the third on a Reeder three-run homer to left.
Manhattan would cut the ETSU advantage to 11-4 in the top of the fourth after Ramon Ortega came in to score on a Buccaneer error and Nick Camastro singled in a run.
In the bottom of the fifth, freshman Clinton Freeman (Jonesborough, Tenn.) recorded his first collegiate home run as he crushed a solo homer to right to make the score 12-4. Later in the inning, Hoilman doubled in Derek Niesman (Wellington, Fla.) to give the Bucs a nine run lead.
ETSU put the game out of reach in the sixth after a solo home run by Kerry Doane (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.), a sac fly by Niesman and a RBI single by Reeder gave the Bucs a 16-4 edge.
The Jaspers added three runs on four hits in the top of the eighth, but the Buccaneers answered with three of their own in the bottom half to make the final 19-7.
