JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Feb. 10, 2015) – Senior Jimmy Nesselt (Plantation, Fla.) and junior Jeremy Taylor (Fayetteville, Ga.) were named to the College Sports Madness Preseason All-Southern Conference Team, which was released on Tuesday.
Nesselt, a 6-foot-2 senior right-handed pitcher, led the Buccaneers with seven wins in 2014 and was named to the Atlantic Sun All-Academic Team. In addition to leading the team in wins, Nesselt also paced ETSU in starts (16), innings (102.0) and strikeouts (62). Nesselt ranked 29th nationally in starts and was fifth in the A-Sun in wins. The Plantation, Fla. native registered his first-ever complete game in a win over Mercer on May 15, while tying a career high with eight strikeouts against Stetson (3/22) and USC Upstate (5/2). Nesselt posted four straight quality starts to begin the year, and allowed three runs or less in nine of his 16 starts.
Meanwhile, Taylor received A-Sun All-Tournament Team honors last season, and ranked second on the team in hits (66), and third in runs scored (38), doubles (13) and triples (3). In 2014, Taylor recorded 17 multi-hit and six multi-RBI games, while notching his 100th career hit at Jacksonville (4/17). Taylor, who hit safely in 12 straight games last April, carries a nine-game hit streak into the 2015 campaign. The Fayetteville, Ga. native started 55 of the 57 games for the Bucs in 2014 (41 in center and 14 in right).
Both Nesselt and Taylor received second team preseason honors by College Sports Madness.
ETSU opens the 2015 season on Feb. 13 when the Blue and Gold host Eastern Kentucky at Thomas Stadium. First pitch is set for 3:05 p.m.
