Tennessee Snaps ETSU’s Eight-Game Win Streak

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (March 10, 2020) — The ETSU Baseball team carried an eight-game win streak into Knoxville on Tuesday evening, but were unable to continue their winning ways as the Blue and Gold fell to the University of Tennessee 17-5.

The Vols had a big inning in the second to take an early 6-0. Tennessee put up the six spot with seven hits including two doubles in the frame. In the next half inning, Jake Madole (Hampstead, N.C.) put ETSU in the run column with a solo home run to left field, his team-high fifth of the year.  

After UT added another in the third, Jackson Greer (Knoxville, Tenn.) took the first pitch of the fourth inning over the wall in left to cut Tennessee’s lead back to five. The Bucs continued produce in the inning as Ethan Cady (Soddy Daisy, Tenn.) drove in David Beam (Knoxville, Tenn.) with a single for the second run of the frame before Ashton King (Knoxville, Tenn.) delivered a bases-clearing double to plate Cady and Cade Gilbert (Ringgold, Ga.). At the end of the fourth, UT led 7-5.

The Vols added a run in the fifth with a two-out RBI single and then put a five spot up in the sixth to take a 13-5 lead. The Vols plated four runs in the frame with two homers and an RBI single. The Vols reached their 17-run total their two two-run blasts in the seventh and eighth inning.

Stat of the game
The Bucs were not able to keep UT off the bases as the Vols tallied 20 hits. The mark is the most amount of hits by the Bucs this season, the previous season-high was 11. 

Notables
» Noah Hill (Ringgold, Ga.) extended his on-base streak to 15 straight games to start the season with a single in the seventh.
» Cady logged his third multi-hit game of the season going 2-for-3.
» With two doubles and two home runs, the Bucs have recorded an extra-base hit in all 15 games this year.  
» Seven of the starting nine Bucs recorded a base hit.  
» UT’s Alerick Soularie went 3-for-5 at the dish with four RBIs and two home runs.
» Entering Tuesday, the Vols had allowed five or more runs in just two games this season.
» Madole has tallied 13 hits this season, the Hampstead, N.C. native has tallied 10 extra-base knocks.
