ABOUT ETSU
The Bucs enter 2021 after a 12-3 record in 2020. The Bucs are led by head coach Joe Pennucci who is in his fourth season at the helm of Buccaneer baseball. The 43-man roster consists of 20 newcomers and 12 true freshmen. The Bucs will open their campaign at home for the 11th straight season and hold a 7-3 record in that span.

THREE IS THE MAGIC NUMBER
After recording winning seasons each in 2017, '18 and '19, the Bucs secured three winning seasons in a row for the first time since the 1981-83 seasons. In those years, ETSU went 44-17, 34-19 and 20-18, respectively. In 2017, ETSU finished 30-29 and in 2018 began the Joe Pennucci era with a 28-25 mark.

IT'S OPENING DAY!
In all three of Coach Pennucci's seasons at ETSU, the Bucs have won their Opening Day matchups with scores of 6-2, 4-3 and 6-2, respectively. Over the last 35 years, ETSU holds a 14-21-1 record on the first day of the season. Since the turn of the century in 2000, the Bucs are 10-10. The current active streak of four opening day wins is the longest in program history.

SOCON PRESEASON POLLS
The Bucs were slated fifth along with UNCG in the Southern Conference preseason coaches poll. The Bucs tallied three preseason All-SoCon selections in Jake Lyle (Spring Hill, Tenn.), Jake Madole (Hampstead, N.C.) and Matthew Mercer (Chattanooga, Tenn.). The media also picked the Bucs to finish fifth.

SERIES HISTORY
The Bucs and the Norse have faced 12 times in program history with ETSU holding an 8-4 record. Most recently the Bucs won two of three from the Norse in Johnson City in 2018. ETSU is 5-4 against NKU at home.

ABOUT NORTHERN KENTUCKY
In 2020’s shortened season the Norse went 0-17 and were 0-15 on the road. NKU is on a 19-game losing streak dating back to 2019. One of NKU’s top hitters, Andrew Bacon is back in 2021 after ending the season on a 13-game hitting streak. The fifth-year player carried a .303 batting average and .470 on-base percentage last season. He led the Horizon League with three home runs and 15 RBIs.

The Norse’s squad also features the 2019 College Home Run Derby Champion, Griffin Doersching. In 2020, he hit .242 with a .632 OBP. The senior tallied four doubles and a home run with 12 RBI.

Head Coach of the Norse, Todd Asalon is entering his 21st season at the helm of the squad and holds a 547-555-1 record.
