Webb leads Bucs with two-hit day

STATESBORO, Ga. (Feb. 25, 2023) – ETSU continued its early-season challenge at Georgia Southern — a 2022 NCAA Regional host — on Saturday, falling 9-0 in the second game of the series in Statesboro, Ga.

The Bucs (2-4) trailed just 1-0 after three innings, but four runs in the fourth and four runs in the sixth allowed Georgia Southern (4-2) to pull away and clinch the series.

Redshirt junior Noah Webb (Kodak, Tenn.) slotted into the DH spot today and finished 2-for-3 at the plate with a single and a double. Two spots behind him in the order, junior outfielder Nick Iannantone (Plainfield, Ill.) had a single in the eighth for ETSU’s other hit.

The eighth proved to be ETSU’s best chance to find some scoring, as Webb’s double and Iannantone’s single, along with a walk by Ryan Enos (Oriskany, N.Y.), loaded the bases. Unfortunately for the Bucs, Georgia Southern tight roped out of the jam and finished it off in the ninth.

ETSU went with four pitchers today, getting nine strikeouts pitching five shutout innings as a staff. Starter Andrew Ronne (Athens, Tenn.) and junior transfer Austin Emener (Macon, Ga.) combined for seven of those strikeouts.
