Barth hits his first homer of the season

MACON, Ga. (April 16, 2023) – ETSU baseball completed a three-game series at Mercer on Sunday afternoon, slipping 7-2 in the series finale at OrthoGeorgia Park in Macon, Ga. This weekend marks the first time ETSU has suffered a three-game sweep this season.

Mercer jumped to a 1-0 lead after the first inning and tacked on two more in the second and three more in the fourth. The Bucs attempted to rally back in the late innings with a solo homer from sophomore Tommy Barth (Brecksville, Ohio) and a sacrifice fly from Noah Gent (Corryton, Tenn.), but Mercer recorded the final out before the rally got too far off the ground.

Barth is the 13th player to hit a home run for ETSU this season. Today’s homer was the seventh of his collegiate career and his first of the campaign.

Nick Iannantone (Plainfield, Ill.) and Cameron Sisneros (Littleton, Colo.) led the Bucs with two-hit days, while Barth and Garett Wallace (Sanford, Fla.) accounted for the other two ETSU hits. Iannantone and Wallace had back-to-back singles to lead off the ninth in an attempt to rally.

On the mound, ETSU was led by three scoreless innings from Cade Carlson (Carmel, Ind.) in relief. Carlson allowed just one hit and three walks while striking out two. The trio of Carlson, starter Nathanial Tate (Manchester, Tenn.) and reliever Derek McCarley (Seymour, Tenn.) combined for eight strikeouts.
