Junior smashes nine homers in final 14 games

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (June 7, 2023) – The Southern Conference announced award winners for the month of May on Wednesday, naming ETSU junior Cameron Sisneros (Littleton, Colo.) as the SoCon Player of the Month for baseball.

Sisneros went on a tear in the month of May, batting .442 over the final 14 games of the season. He smashed nine home runs and four doubles, while posting 23 hits, 18 runs scored, 24 RBI and a monstrous 1.038 slugging percentage. Additionally, Sisneros walked 13 times with just eight strikeouts — remaining the toughest player to strike out in the SoCon all season with just 24 strikeouts in 214 at-bats.

The Colorado native also hit safely in 13 of 14 games this past month and reached in every game, ending the season on a 23-game reached base streak — the longest of any Buccaneer this season.

The month started with a big splash, as Sisneros earned SoCon Player of the Week and one of Collegiate Baseball’s National Players of the Week honors for his performance over four games at Appalachian State and nationally-ranked Oklahoma State. At OSU, Sisneros clubbed five homers over three games, including three in the series finale.

Later in the season, Sisneros hit a two-run shot and a three-run shot for a five-RBI game against UNCG in the regular season finale, helping ETSU secure a top four seed in the SoCon tournament with a 13-3 win.

In the SoCon Championship at Fluor Field in Greenville, S.C., Sisneros started all three games and had three hits. He scored two runs in the 12-0 win over The Citadel.

Sisneros also had a positive impact with his glove, fielding .991 with just one error on 113 outs recorded.

To put the cherry on top, Sisneros was ranked the 30th best first baseman in the nation by D1 Baseball this month. Sisneros was also selected to the all-conference second team by both the coaches and the media. He finished the season with a .383 batting average, 82 hits, 18 doubles, 16 homers, 45 runs and 59 RBI to lead the Bucs offensively.
