Johnson City, Tenn. -- The East Tennessee State football team placed four players on the 2000 All-Southern Conference Media Football team as voted upon by the Southern Conference Sports Media Association.
Seniors Todd Wells (quarterback), Rahim El Amin (linebacker), Denario Smalls (cornerback) and sophomore Cecil Moore (wide receiver) all earned All-Southern Conference Media Second Team honors.
El Amin and Smalls both earned First Team All-Conference honors as voted on by the coaches. Wells and Moore were Second Team honorees.
Senior Rahim El Amin led the Buccaneer defense, and ranked fourth in the Southern Conference, with 113 tackles this fall. He had nine tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks. Smalls was the Bucs most consistent cover corner. He made 41 tackles this season and had four interceptions.
Wells became the Southern Conferences All-Time leader in Total Offense during the 2000 campaign. This fall, Wells set the Southern Conference single season record for total offense (2,957) and the ETSU record for passing yardage in a season (2,624). Moore led the team in receptions (58), receiving yards (883), receiving yards/game (80.3) and receiving touchdowns (7). He ranked fourth in the SoCon in receptions/game and fifth in receiving yards/game.
ETSU finished the 2000 season at 6-5 with a 55-7 win against Charleston Southern on November 11. It was the Bucs fourth winning season in the past five years.
