JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (AP) - Du'Shon Martin returned an interception 28 yards for a touchdown to help Appalachian State beat East Tennessee 30-13 on Sept. 30.

Appalachian State (3-1, 2-0 Southern Conference) recorded 402 yards of total offense with Joe Burchette throwing for 158 yards.

East Tennessee (2-3, 1-2) got on the board first with back-to-back field goals by Con Chellis in the first and second quarters. Chellis recorded kicks of 41 and 39 yards.

But Appalachian State answered those scores with two of their own before the second quarter ended. A 10-yard touchdown run by Jerry Beard and a 2-yard touchdown pass from Joe Burchette to Daniel Wilcox made the score 13-6 going into the half.

East Tennessee's final score came in the fourth quarter on a 5-yard touchdown pass to Cecil Moore from Todd Wells.

Martin's interception return with just over two minutes to go sealed the Mountaineers' victory.
