East Tennessee State's football team had its first full scrimmage of spring practice Friday night. After a spirited workout in chilly conditions, head coach Paul Hamilton had the following comments about the scrimmage.
"I was very pleased with our defense. I knew that our defensive team would be ahead of our offensive team coming into the scrimmage, but the thing that pleased me the most was that the defense really tackled well. It's evident that we have some kids that can run on the defensive side of the football."
"I thought that offensively Nick Spearman did some good things for us in there at fullback. Our young quarterbacks and offensive line have a lot of learning to do, we are throwing a lot of things at them."
"We did not limit what the defense could do tonight. We let them run all of their blitzes and different looks, so it was tough on the offense a little bit."
"We have a long ways to go, but I feel that we can be a productive offense."
"I felt like coming into the scrimmage tonight that we were progressing well in all phases of our game. I was more concerned coming in (to the scrimmage) about our kicking game as far as out PAT and field goal kickers. But I felt that they had a productive night tonight."
"Offensively it was obvious to me that we have a lot of work to do on that side of the ball."
