JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (March 31, 2018) – The ETSU football team wrapped up the third week of spring practice by holding its second scrimmage on Saturday afternoon at William B. Greene, Jr. Stadium.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

OFFENSE

The Buccaneer offense totaled 501 yards as they passed for 354 yards and ran for 147.

Quarterbacks Austin Herink (Cleveland, Tenn.) and Logan Marchi (Bristol, Conn.) combined for 295 passing yards and five touchdowns on Saturday … Herink completed 12 passes for 144 yards and three touchdowns, while Marchi recorded 20 completions for 151 yards and two touchdowns … Trey Mitchell (Knoxville, Tenn.) went 4-for-7 with 44 yards and scored on a 21-yard run, while Tyrique Sandusky (Memphis, Tenn.) completed two passes for 15 yards.

Herink connected on a nine-yard touchdown pass to Keith Coffee (Lilburn, Ga.) on the opening drive, while later following that up with a 59-yard strike to Andrew Heyward (Powder Springs, Ga.) and found Anthony Spagnoletti (Bealeton, Va.) for a four-yard score in the corner of the end zone.

Marchi connected on a seven-yard touchdown pass to  Coffee and hit fullback Haddon Hill (Knoxville, Tenn.) for a six-yard score.

Nineteen different players accounted for the Bucs’ 38 receptions with Coffee pacing the group with seven catches for 50 yards and two touchdowns … Braxton Richburg (Hoschton, Ga.) finished with five receptions for 32 yards and Quan Harrison (Greeneville, Tenn.) added four receptions for 35 yards.

For the second straight week, freshman Quay Holmes (Powder Springs, Ga.) led the running backs as he rushed nine times for 61 yards and added a touchdown … Holmes’ longest run went for 22 yards and he also scored on a one-yard carry.

DEFENSE

The Buccaneer defense totaled 90 tackles, two sacks and 10 tackles for loss, while forcing three fumbles and one interception.

Linebackers Colton Lakes (Loveland, Ohio)and Zack Yancey (Opelika, Ala.), along with defensive backs Thomas Henderson (Dublin, Ohio) and Artevius Smith (Birmingham, Ala.) all registered six tackles … Lakes added two tackles for a loss and had one of the three forced fumbles.

Defensive lineman Trejuan Purty (Maryville, Tenn.) finished with five tackles, two tackles for loss, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery, while linebacker and Temple transferJared Folks (Harrisburg, Pa.) also tallied five tackles … Titus Tucker (Lenoir, N.C.), Domenique Williams (Charlotte, N.C.) and Austin Hicks (Elizabethton, Tenn.) joined the group of five players to finish with five tackles.

Defensive back Keanu James (Dacula, Ga.) posted the lone interception, to go with three tackles and one pass breakup.

Defensive lineman Chei Hill (Homestead, Fla.) had both sacks for the Buccaneers, while adding a forced fumble and fumble recovery … Fellow defensive lineman Miles Manigault (Cincinnati, Ohio) totaled two tackles, two quarterback hurries and had one pass breakup.

SPECIAL TEAMS

JJ Jerman (Seymour, Tenn.) made field goals from 24 and 45 yards, respectively, while making all four extra-point attempts … Jerman missed a 53-yard field goal attempt.

UP NEXT

The Bucs wrap up spring practice this week … ETSU practices on Tuesday and Wednesday, while holding its Ballad Health Blue-Gold Spring Game on Thursday night at 7 p.m. at William B. Greene, Jr. Stadium.
