JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Dec. 11, 2018) -- The ETSU Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced on Tuesday that it has finished the turf installation inside the ETSU Athletics Center.
“ETSU Athletics is proud to unveil this incredible asset for our student-athletes, coaches, marching band, and campus community,” said ETSU Athletic Director Scott Carter. “This turf is a first-class addition to ETSU, and the realization of a collaborative vision of athletic and academic programming in this multi-purpose facility. I could not be more excited about the numerous versatile possibilities now available to ETSU athletics, our university and this region. I particularly want to thank the generous donors who made this project a reality.”
The project, which is another task completed through ETSU’s Embrace Excellence initiatives, was installed by AstroTurf. The surface is made of PureGrass® with Armacell® pad. The surface measures 65,625 square feet, and was installed in rollable panels and secured by a Velcro® system. There was zero infill required for the new surface, while the conversion time for the new turf will be eight hours to install and four hours to roll up.
By using the latest technology from AstroTurf, this will allow the Dome to be converted faster than the previous model. With a quicker conversion system in place, this will provide flexibility in utilizing the facility for ETSU Athletics needs, band practice, and other campus functions and external engagements.
ETSU donors have played an integral role in completing projects through the Embrace Excellence campaign, including this development, which gives the Buccaneers one of the finest indoor facilities across the FCS level.
