SPARTANBURG, S.C. (June 25, 2020) – It was another record-setting day for ETSU Athletics, this time thanks to the Southern Conference Honor Roll. The Bucs placed 262 student-athletes on the 2019-20 SoCon Honor Roll, blowing by the program’s previous record of 229 set in 2017-18. The SoCon office released the Honor Roll on Thursday morning.
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (June 15, 2020) – Over the course of the last two weeks, ETSU Football has announced five future opponents via its social media platforms. Headlining the five future opponents are three FBS schools: Liberty, Mississippi State and North Carolina. In addition to the FBS competitors, the Bucs will also square off with UVA Wise and Delaware State.

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (May 28, 2020) – For the third consecutive season, ETSU running back Quay Holmes (Powder Springs, Ga.) has garnered HERO Sports Preseason All-American recognition. This time, the redshirt-junior was named to the Second Team Special Teams list, registering the second consecutive preseason second team appearance.
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (May 27, 2020) -- The ETSU Athletics Department is currently accepting nominations for induction into the 2020 ETSU Athletics Hall of Fame.

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (April 26, 2020) – Late Saturday night, ETSU’s very own Nasir Player (Columbia, S.C.) signed an undrafted free agent contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (April 23, 2020) – ETSU Football Head Coach Randy Sanders has announced the addition of Desmond Dailey Jr. to the 2020 recruiting class. Dailey Jr. signed a national letter of intent to join the ETSU football program and will join 23 others who committed earlier this spring.
IRVING, Texas (April 15, 2020) – The National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame (NFF) announced today the members of the 2020 NFF Hampshire Honor Society. These members are college football players from all divisions of play who maintained a 3.2 cumulative GPA or better throughout their college careers. Ben Blackmon (Newberry, S.C.), Eddie Gajardo (Greeneville, Tenn.), Dustin Nickle (Knoxville, Tenn.), Cameron Parker (Asheville, Tenn.), Austin Rowan (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Anthony “TJ” Spagnoletti (Bealeton, Va.) were six of 14 Southern Conference representatives on the list, leading the charge for the SoCon.

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (March 17, 2020) -- By unanimous votes of the league’s Council of Presidents and directors of athletics, the Southern Conference is canceling all athletics-related activities for the remainder of the 2019-20 academic year, including competition, championships, organized practices and meetings, due to the ongoing threat of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, Commissioner Jim Schaus announced Tuesday.

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Feb. 14, 2020) – The East Tennessee State University Athletics Department announced on Friday a schedule adjustment regarding the 2020 Buccaneer football season. The Bucs will now host Western Carolina on Saturday, Oct. 17 and the open date will move to Oct. 10.

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Feb. 3, 2020) – The ETSU football team will host five home games throughout the 2020 campaign, along with traveling to Southeastern Conference foe Georgia. ETSU Football Head Coach Randy Sanders announced the schedule on Monday afternoon.
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Jan. 23, 2020) – ETSU Football Head Coach Randy Sanders announced on Thursday that current defensive ends coach Collins Ukwu will now transition to coaching the defensive line, while Paul Humphries rejoins the ETSU staff as the new defensive ends coach.
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Jan. 16, 2020) – A trio of ETSU football players were named to the Phil Steele All-American squads, as announced late Wednesday afternoon. Artevius Smith (Birmingham, Ala.) was tabbed to the Phil Steele All-American Third Team, while Nasir Player (Columbia, S.C.) was named to the Phil Steele All-American Fourth Team. Donovan Manuel (Ellenwood, Ga.) culminated a strong freshman campaign by being honored with a Phil Steele All-American Freshman Fourth Team appearance.
SPARTANBURG, S.C. (Jan. 15, 2020) – The Southern Conference announced its Fall Academic All-Conference Team on Wednesday afternoon, as 36 ETSU student-athletes earned the academic honors for 2019.
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Jan. 8, 2020) – The ETSU Buccaneers were well represented on the Phil Steele All-Southern Conference Teams, garnering nine positions on the three teams.
WACO, Texas (Dec. 20, 2019) – The list of accolades just keeps getting bigger and bigger for Nasir Player (Columbia, S.C.) as he was named to the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) FCS Coaches’ All-America Second Team. The honor was announced Friday morning and is the third All-American honor of the season and the week for Player.
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Dec. 19, 2019) – The All-American accolades continue to funnel in for the Bucs as Nasir Player (Columbia, S.C.) and Artevius Smith (Birmingham, S.C.) snatch their second All-American honors of the week and the postseason. The ETSU duo were named to the STATS FCS All-American Second Team following strong senior campaigns.
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Dec. 18, 2019) – ETSU Football Head Coach Randy Sanders introduced the seven newest additions to the Buccaneer roster on Wednesday afternoon as part of the 2020 ETSU National Signing Day, presented by Chick-fil-A in Johnson City.
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Dec. 17, 2019) – For the first time in his collegiate career, Artevius Smith (Birmingham, Ala.) was named an All-American. Smith was tabbed to the Associated Press FCS All-American Second Team on Tuesday afternoon.
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Dec. 17, 2019) – For the second consecutive day, an ETSU Buccaneer was named to a HERO Sports All-American squad. This time, Quay Holmes (Powder Springs, Ga.) was labeled as an honorable mention for the HERO Sports All-American Sophomore team, joining Nasir Player (Columbia, S.C.) with an All-American accolade this postseason.
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Dec. 16, 2019) – The first list of the HERO Sports All-American honors was announced Monday afternoon as Nasir Player (Columbia, S.C.) landed a spot on the postseason team. Player was named to the HERO Sports All-American Second Team following his senior campaign.
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Dec. 3, 2019) – For the 19th year in a row, ETSU student-athletes came together to bring the spirit of the holidays to local children, hosting the annual “A Buccaneer Christmas” in the Mini-Dome on Tuesday evening.
SPARTANBURG, S.C. (Nov. 26, 2019) – The ETSU football team brought some hardware home on Tuesday afternoon as the Southern Conference announced its all-conference teams, of which 12 Buccaneers were found. Nine different players were named to the all-conference squad from the league’s coaches, while three were placed on all-conference teams as voted on by the media.
CHICAGO, Ill. (Nov. 25, 2019) – Just 18 days after being placed on the watch list, ETSU’s redshirt-senior defensive back Artevius Smith (Birmingham, Ala.) was tabbed as a STATS FCS Buck Buchanan Award finalist, which was announced by the selection committee on Monday afternoon.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Nov. 23, 2019) – The 2019 campaign for the ETSU Buccaneer football team came to a close in Nashville, Tenn. on Saturday afternoon as the Bucs dropped a 38-0 contest to Southeastern Conference foe Vanderbilt. With the loss, the Bucs fall to 3-9 to close the door on the season.

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Nov. 17, 2019) – Following a strong team win and a dominant individual performance from Quay Holmes (Powder Springs, Ga.), the redshirt-sophomore running back was recognized as the College Sports Madness FCS National Player of the Week.
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Nov. 16, 2019) – The home finale did not disappoint as ETSU held several celebrations throughout the game including: Senior Day, celebrating a 38-33 win and most notably witnessing a program rushing record set by Quay Holmes (Powder Springs, Ga.) as he scampered for 255 yards. Holmes’ 255-yard performance broke a 21-year-old record of 242 yards held by ETSU Hall of Famer, Brandon Walker.

With the loss, ETSU falls to 2-8 overall and 0-7 in league play, while the Catamounts improved to 3-7 (2-5 SoCon).

(Nov. 4, 2019) – The ETSU Football season finale at Vanderbilt on Saturday, Nov. 23 in Nashville, Tenn., will kick off at 3:30 p.m. ET / 2:30 p.m. CT, the Southeastern Conference (SEC) Office announced on the morning of Oct. 31. The broadcast for the game will be aired on one of the SEC Network platforms with the specific channel announced within the regular 12-day selection process prior to kickoff.

ETSU made one final push after falling behind for the first time in the game and came up one-yard short of the endzone in their final drive. Following the loss, ETSU drops to 2-7 on the season and 0-6 in league play. The Bulldogs improved to 6-4, including 4-2 in Southern Conference action.

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (Oct. 17, 2019) – The ETSU Bucs dropped a rivalry game in heart breaking fashion on Thursday night in Chattanooga, Tenn. The Mocs’s Victor Ulmo buried his only made field goal of the game with 14 seconds remaining in the contest to down the visiting Bucs, 16-13.

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Oct. 5, 2019) – The ETSU Bucs Football Team dropped a tough 35-17 home Southern Conference matchup against Wofford on Saturday afternoon at William B. Greene, Jr. Stadium. The Terriers ran loose for 409 rushing yards and five rushing touchdowns to defeat the Buccaneers.

Smith was tabbed as the SoCon Defensive Player of the Week as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.
GREENVILLE, S.C. (Sept. 28, 2019) – Defense was the name of the game in Saturday’s Southern Conference showdown between ETSU and Furman in Greenville, S.C. The Bucs dropped a narrow 17-10 contest at 15th-ranked Furman, despite outgaining the Paladins 290-268. With the loss, the Bucs fall to 2-3 (0-2 SoCon), while the Paladins improve to 3-2 (2-0 SoCon).

The ETSU coaching staff will be wearing shoulder patches on the sidelines to help raise awareness of the program during the game against Furman in Greenville, S.C.

With the loss, ETSU falls to 1-2 (0-1 SoCon) on the season, while the Keydets improve to 2-1 (1-0 SoCon).
