JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (June 14, 2021) – The Football Championship Subdivision Athletics Directors Association (FCS ADA) has named 54 student-athletes to the 23rd annual Academic All-Star team. Among those 54 student-athletes is junior tight end, Nate Adkins (Knoxville, Tenn.). Adkins was one of five Southern Conference competitors to make the Academic All-Star team.
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (June 11, 2021) -- East Tennessee State University sophomore kicker Tyler Keltner (Tallahassee, Fla.) was recognized for his strong performances both on and off the field, as he landed a spot on the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team on Friday.
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (June 7, 2021) – Three more FCS All-American honors are heading to Johnson City, Tenn. as a trio of Buccaneers were named to the Phil Steele FCS All-American squads. Quay Holmes (Powder Springs, Ga.) earns his third All-American honor of the spring, also earning spots on the Stats Perform FCS All-America First Team (May 10) and the AP Second Team All-American (May 12). This is the second All-American award this spring for both Jared Folks (Harrisburg, Pa.) and Tre’mond Shorts (Hampton, Ga.).

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (May 20, 2021) -- Today, the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame announced the honorees for its Achievement Awards, with former ETSU Athletic Trainer Jerry “Doc” Robertson receiving the Pat Summitt Lifetime Achievement Award.
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (May 19, 2021) – Two more Buccaneers have received the nod for postseason All-American honors as HERO Sports officially announced its honorees on Wednesday morning. Alijah Huzzie (Franklin, Ga.) was named to the HERO Sports Freshman All-American team, while Donovan Manuel (Ellenwood, Ga.) earned a spot on the HERO Sports Sophomore All-American squad.
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (May 18, 2021) – For the first time since the conclusion of the 2018 season, the ETSU Football team finds itself ranked inside the Top-25 rankings in both major polls at the season’s end. The Bucs concluded the regular season ranked No. 22 but have advanced one spot in the final official rankings, climbing to No. 21 in the STATS Perform FCS Top 25 poll. Meanwhile, ETSU is now sitting at No. 24 in the FCS Coaches Poll.
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (May 17, 2021) – The ETSU football team has put the odd 2021 spring season behind and is now focused on getting back to normal this fall as the Bucs have officially revealed the 2021 fall season schedule. The Bucs will begin the season at Southeastern Conference foe, Vanderbilt, on Saturday, Sept. 4. The Bucs will host six home contests at William B. Greene, Jr. Stadium this fall.
WACO, Texas (May 14, 2021) – For the first time in his collegiate career, graduate linebacker Jared Folks (Harrisburg, Pa.) has received an All-American honor as he was named to the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) First Team All-American squad on Friday morning.
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (May 12, 2021) – For the first time in his career, redshirt-junior running back Quay Holmes (Powder Springs, Ga.) has received postseason recognition from the Associated Press. Holmes was tabbed to the AP FCS All-American Second Team on Wednesday afternoon. This is the second All-American honor for Holmes this spring as he earned a spot on the Stats Perform FCS All-America First Team on Monday.

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (April 22, 2021) – The ETSU Football team capped off the successful season with 22 Southern Conference postseason accolades on Thursday afternoon, as announced by the league office. ETSU captured 15 All-SoCon Coaches Awards (12 players) and seven All-SoCon Media honors (six players). In addition to the all-conference honors, Jared Folks (Harrisburg, Pa.) and Tre’mond Shorts (Hampton, Ga.) earned individual accolades with Folks capturing the SoCon Defensive Player of the Year and Shorts garnering the Jacobs Blocking Award.

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (April 12, 2021) – ETSU’s 2021 Spring Football regular season has come to a conclusion. This Saturday, April 17 vs. Chattanooga was set to be the final home game of the spring season for the Bucs. However, ETSU was notified by the Southern Conference that Chattanooga had opted out of the remainder of their regular season schedule.

(April 10, 2021) – In a game where offense was hard to come by and every possession counted, it was the Mercer Bears who stole the one-possession battle as they handed ETSU a devastating 21-13 loss in Macon, Ga. Earlier this afternoon, ETSU cracked the STATS Perform FCS Top 25 poll for the first time since 2018. Now the Bucs captured two of the three weekly Southern Conference awards as Quay Holmes (Powder Springs, Ga.) was named SoCon Offensive Player of the Week and Alijah Huzzie (Franklin, Ga.) earned SoCon Defensive Player of the Week. In addition, Holmes earned the honor of FCS National Offensive Player of the Week.
CHICAGO, Ill. (April 5, 2021) – For the first time since 2018, the ETSU Buccaneer football squad has cracked the Top 25, making an appearance at No. 21. This is the first time that the Bucs have been featured inside the Top 25 since Nov. 19, 2018.

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (March 13, 2021) – It truly was a tale of two halves in Saturday’s 17-13 loss to No. 15 Furman on Saturday at William B. Greene, Jr. Stadium. The Bucs (1-1) carried a 10-0 advantage into the locker room, only to get outscored 17-3 by the Paladins (3-1) in the second half. To compliment the four-point loss, the Bucs were plagued with penalties as ETSU amassed 13 penalties on the day for 103 yards, including 12 in the second half that went for 93 yards.

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Southern Conference Commissioner Jim Schaus announced Tuesday the formation of a Racial Equity and Justice Task Force to counsel the league by identifying concepts and developing actionable items that can be used by all conference member schools regarding improving racial equity and social justice. The 15-member panel is composed of a racially diverse blend of student-athletes, coaches, campus administrators and athletics department staff members, with at least one representative from each of the league’s 10 full member schools.

(September 28, 2020) -- The East Tennessee State University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics’ What’s Important Now (WIN) committee released plans Monday for a 12-part video series Jerseys For Social Justice in which Black ETSU student-athletes and coaches share their experiences as Black Americans and discuss the biggest issues facing the Black community today.

(Aug. 13, 2020) – The Southern Conference Council of Presidents announced Thursday that the league will not have fall conference competition due to health and safety concerns related to the COVID-19 pandemic, allowing for nonconference contests if desired. It is the intention to move the fall sports’ regular-season competition and championships to the spring.
