ETSU Football Concludes Regular Season; Bucs Hopeful to Hear Name Called on Sunday

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (April 12, 2021) – ETSU’s 2021 Spring Football regular season has come to a conclusion. This Saturday, April 17 vs. Chattanooga was set to be the final home game of the spring season for the Bucs. However, ETSU was notified by the Southern Conference that Chattanooga had opted out of the remainder of their regular season schedule.

Since the notification, ETSU has completed an exhaustive search for an opponent to fill that home game, but to no avail. Speaking with over 40 schools in the region, most programs had either already completed their spring seasons, were uninterested in competition or had games already scheduled for that date.

“We are very thankful to have had the opportunity to play football this spring and get in games with the fall season being postponed,” stated head coach Randy Sanders. “We are disappointed that our final regular season opportunity versus Chattanooga has been canceled. Certainly, we are disappointed in the outcome Saturday night at Mercer. With that said, our team played some good football this spring and have been recognized in the national polls. I want to thank our great fans, Dr. Brian Noland and Scott Carter for their support and want to let them know we will continue to be ready in hopes that our name could be called on Sunday morning for the FCS Playoffs. Whether our next opportunity comes in the playoffs or next fall, I am very excited about the future of our football program.”

“ETSU Fans are the best in the SoCon and have supported this team through the most challenging of years,” added ETSU Athletic Director Scott Carter. “We understand and share their disappointment in this shortened regular season. ETSU Athletics is planning special appreciation events for alumni, fans and donors that are the foundation of our program. Details on those events will be released as they are confirmed.”
